Security & Data Protection FAQs

    1. How We Protect Your Personal Data

We take your data security seriously. Medicred applies robust technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information in compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). These include:

      • Encryption of personal data during storage and transmission
      • Secure access controls and regular vulnerability assessments
      • Data minimisation: We only collect what is necessary for processing your application
      • Strict internal policies on data handling and access
      • Third-party supplier vetting and contractual controls to ensure your data is only shared where necessary and securely

We retain your information only for as long as necessary to meet legal, regulatory, and operational requirements. For more details, please refer to our Privacy Notice on our website.

    2. What to Do if You Suspect Fraud

If you suspect that someone has accessed your personal or financial information fraudulently, or if you notice any suspicious activity, please contact us immediately at compliance@medicred.co.uk. A member of our Compliance team will:

      • Investigate your concern promptly and confidentially
      • Secure your account while we assess the situation
      • Provide updates and guidance throughout the investigation
      • Liaise with law enforcement or fraud prevention agencies as needed

We also recommend you contact your bank and check your credit file for any unexpected activity.

    3. How We Use Your Credit Information

We use your credit information to assess your creditworthiness and affordability when you apply for a loan with us. This means:

      • We conduct a credit check with Creditsafe, a licensed credit reference agency (CRA) to review your past borrowing behaviour, including repayment history and any defaults.
      • We may also share your account performance with CRAs, which can affect your credit file.
      • We use this information, alongside your declared income and expenditure, to determine whether the loan is affordable and suitable for your needs, in line with our obligation to lend responsibly.

We will always inform you before conducting a credit search that may leave a footprint on your file. For further information, including your rights regarding credit information, please see our full Privacy Notice.
